After years of legal tug-o-war the new gravel plant goes into operation in the Upper Austria Hausruckviertel. The WIBAU ready-mixed concrete plant guarantees the supply of the central area of Linz with concrete.
The district of Eferding, in midst of one of the country’s most important regions for resources gravel has been excavated since the middle of the 19th century. However, it is not easy to open a new gravel plant. After the WIBAU Holding entered the joint venture with the long standing company QUARZSANDE to establish the new gravel plant in the municipality of Alkoven, a series of legal obstacles had to be taken in order to gain the required excavation license. But since 2014 gravel has been excavated in Alkoven.
Mag. Gerhard Kraus, manager of the WIBAU Group points out the strategic importance of the new location:
“Due to the perfect connection to the central area of Linz, Alkoven plays an important role in the supply of our ready-mixed concrete plant Leonding. 110.000 tons of finished products per year are planned within the next 18 years. This investment with a total amount of 1.7 million Euros by the end guarantees the long-term supply with high-quality sand and gravel.”
With a total of four ready-mixed concrete plants, seven gravel plants and one big truck fleet WIBAU supplies the most important core areas in Upper Austria with high-quality basic construction material.
